Pulmonary & Critical Care Fellowship
Welcome from Program Director
Rendell Ashton
Thank you for your interest in the Cleveland Clinic fellowship program in pulmonary and critical care medicine! As program director, I am immensely proud of our fellows and what we have to offer in terms of a training environment and curriculum as they undertake their journey to becoming specialists in the field. Our program mission statement captures the vision of our program, what we aim to accomplish, and how.

I feel we have a unique setting for learning all aspects of pulmonary and critical care medicine, and I hope you will spend some time on this website or contact us to learn more about how we train our fellows.
About Us.
Building your own fellowship: The greatest strength of our Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship is the ability to customize your training to meet your long-term professional goals. We have 3 tracks: traditional academic track, research scholar track, and education scholar track that are available to rank on your match list. To learn more click here.

Exceptional clinical training: Fellows will receive comprehensive pulmonary and critical care training with all the diverse experience in subspecialties and pathology that a quaternary referral center offers. To learn more click here.

Structured mentoring process: A structured mentoring process is essential to ensuring the success of training during fellowship and to foster our commitment to developing leaders in pulmonary/critical care medicine. All fellows meet with the program directors at least twice-yearly to discuss their clinical, research, and career interests. To learn more, please click here to read Mentoring: Seven Roles and Some Specifics by Dr. Tobin.

Leadership training: Second-year fellows participate in the Quality in Leadership (QuIL) program. This program is an in-depth, mentoring program that provides structured training in leadership, quality, and process improvement research.

Comprehensive scholarship training: Third-year fellows are expected to participate in a 3-month, faculty-mentored writing workshop. Fellows meet every other week to learn the art of written scientific communication and to improve their writing and peer-review skills.

The examples above are only a fraction of our unique strengths. We would love the opportunity to meet you and to show you more about what makes Cleveland Clinic a world-class healthcare organization.
